Hebron Road horses endure the heatwave

The 20 or so horses and ponies whose home is a patch of scrub by the side of the Hebron Road endured last week’s heatwave without shade and little evidence of drinking water on hand.

The Joint Policing Committee also recently heard there was still a problem with horses being put into the river at bathing spots in the city, which is illegal under local by-laws. The summer sun is no respite for these animal after what was a tough winter in Kilkenny, with many horses left out unprotected in exposed fields, or left tied up on land with little grazing.
