Callan is without running water today, while the area from a half mile outside the town has no electricity.
The 3 Phase feed that is needed to run the main water plant was damaged by a falling tree in yesterday’s storm, knocking out the area’s water supply.
John Stapleton, who in the area this morning, reported that there was not a huge amount of structural damage done to buildings, but that some hoardings were down. The gutters have also been pulled from the gables of houses.
One of the ancient big trees in the old convent grounds has also fallen. Local schools remain open, although many buses did not run this morning.
