The 41st Lisdowney Wind Farm Sevens Tournament returns later this month, with a bumper three weekends of hurling beginning on July 15 and concluding on July 29.
32 teams will battle it out, all in an attempt to win one of the country’s most prestigious U13 sporting tournaments.
The competition now steeped in history, dates back to the summer of 1982.
Lisdowney’s Larry Hamilton, Eamonn Dunne and Eamon Nolan launched the inaugural ‘Lisdowney Sevens’ competition with eight teams involved.
The tournament, now in its 41st year, welcomes three times as many teams from the year of its inception, with clubs from near and far flocking to the Kilkenny parish to compete.
Since its formation, the competition has featured a number of players who have gone on to wear the black and amber of Kilkenny. Players like; Tommy Walsh, James ‘Cha’ Fitzpatrick and Henry Shefflin have all taken part.
