Catherine Power from Kiltown, The Rower Co. Kilkenny and her son Kevin, members of the Dunbrody Archery Club in New Ross, were part of the Irish team that represented Ireland in the World Field Archery Championships in South Africa at the end of April/start of May 2025.
This was not their first major competition, as they had previously competed in the European and World championships, but the closest that either of them came to a medal was in Tuscany, Italy 2017 when Kevin finished 4th in the young adult male competition.
On this occasion they were taking on some of the best field archers in the world and it was Catherine who took home the individual bronze medal and the 4th best country team medal for the Bow Hunter Recurve competition.
In recognition of her achievements she made the front cover of The Irish Field Archery Magazine in July with a fine 3 page article on her.
But she was not finished there, a few months later on the 13/14th September she competed in the All Ireland Field Archery Championships in Cavan, where she again showed her skills by taking home the Gold medal and a wonderful crystal trophy.
Congrats to Catherine on a fantastic year in Archery, and more to come.
