Eoin Everard will head to Belfast for the Celtic International Cross-Country championships this weekend
Two Kilkenny athletes will fly the flag for the county when they head into international action this weekend.
Eoin Everard and Cathal O'Reilly have been named on the Irish team who will run in the Celtic International Cross-Country in Northern Ireland on Saturday.
The Kilkenny City Harriers duo will head to Belfast's Billy Neil MBE Country Park in Dundonald to go up against the best athletes from the North, England, Scotland, Wales and beyond.
Everard, who is coached by Emmet Dunleavy, is no stranger to the international scene and represented Ireland at the European Cross-Country Championships in Lisbon in 2019.
O'Reilly is the latest member of the Harriers to make the international stage. He was part of the Irish under-20 team who won silver medals at the latest European Championships, which were held in Dublin in December.
The Irish team are hoping to build on the country's good run of cross-country form, with athletes already looking towards the European Champioships in Turin.
"After such strong performances from all of the Irish teams in Decembers' European Athletics Cross-Country Championships, the focus switches quickly towards Turin and aiming to match the successes of 2019 and 2021," said Matt Lockett, National Endurance Co-ordinator.
"The fantastic support in Abbotstown shows the appetite and passion for Cross-Country running in Ireland," he added. "Many of the athletes that go on to represent Ireland in major championships have used the Celtic Cross Country championships to build experience of running against strong opposition."
