Three candidates are celebrating here after being elected in the Callan-Thomastown area

Three candidates have officially been elected in the first count for the Callan-Thomastown area.

They are: Peter 'Chap' Cleere (Fianna Fail), Joe Sheridan (Fianna Fail), and Joe Lyons (Fine Gael). Cllr Cleere topped the poll with a massive 2,057 first preference votes, with Joe Sheridan behind him on 1,988 and Lyons picking up 1,612. Their surpluses are now being distributed.

Chap Cleere is a sitting councillor who also topped the poll in 2019. Joe Lyons is also a sitting councillor. Joe Sheridan is a newcomer and his big vote one of the big talking points of this election so far.

We'll have reaction and more to follow shortly.
