A candidate has been elected in Piltown LEA
Two candidates have been elected in the first count for the Piltown Local Electoral Area. The quota is 1,423.
Fine Gael's Pat Dunphy has topped the poll with a first preference vote of 1,874. Labour's Tomas Breathnach is hot on his heels, elected with a vote of 1,454.
Sitting councillors Ger Frisby (FF) with 963 votes, and Fidelis Doherty (FG) with 947 votes, also look good value to hold onto their seats. Newcomer Jenny Catt Slattery is the next closest, with 812, followed by fellow Fianna Fail woman Maria Wall (533), and Natasha Newsome Drennan of Sinn Fein on 499.
There are 12 candidates vying for five seats in the area, and the final seat looks set to be a real tussle. The surplus of votes from Cllr Pat Dunphy (FG) will be distributed in Count 2.
