A real kick in the Sinns as Hynes loses council seat -Kilkenny Live

Sitting Sinn Fein councillor Denis Hynes lost his seat in the Castlecomer LEA, suffering a disappointing defeat in the race for the final seat.

His loss was Michael Delaney’s gain, with the Fianna Fáil candidate winning the last seat on transfers on the last count despite trailing Mr Hynes by 1,020 to 988 in first preference votes.

Cllr Hynes commented publicly on his elimination on Sunday evening.

"I needn’t tell you, we’re disappointed because I loved being able to help people the best I could and help our communities and see them develop and grow," he remarked.

"With the help of local groups, we achieved a lot in my five years and we put great plans in place for the future," Hynes added.

"Finally, thank you all and I wish you and all your families the very best for the future," he concluded.

The Sinn Fein representative’s disappointed was in stark contrast to Michael Delaney who admitted he 'thought the games was over' after Saturday’s tallies.
