The Callan Thomastown area councillors have met for the first time since the local elections to elect a district chairman for the coming year.

Fianna Fail's Peter 'Chap' Cleere is the new chairman, while the new vice-chair is Cllr Deirdre Cullen (FF).

Both councillors were unanimously elected to their new positions.

Two new district councillors were welcomed to their first municipal district meeting - Cllr Stephanie Doheny and Cllr Joe Sheridan, the latter who attended via video link as he was out of town.

On the agenda for the first meeting, following the elections of chair and vice-chair, were the adoption of standing orders which included setting the meeting schedule for the coming year. It was agreed to alternate between holding the meeting in Callan and Thomastown, with a number of meetings to be held online.
