KILKENNY

Team Up to Clean Up Dunnamaggin NS Action Day

Teams around Kilkenny have been taking part in the Lets Team Up To Clean Up today.

Over 200 groups have registered for activities over the weekend of March 24, the initiative will see over 5,000 volunteers across Kilkenny litter picking their neighbourhoods and planting in excess of 30,000 pollinator friendly flowering bulbs across the county which will bloom over the summer.

"Initiatives like this provides an opportunity for groups to contribute to a positive climate action and this environmental initiative also  ticks a lot of boxes under the UN Sustainable Development Goals," said Cllr Pat Fitzpatrick.

"Removing litter from the environment will safeguard local biodiversity and it’s fantastic that the initiative has made the segregation of plastic bottles and drink cans possible, therefore increasing recycling rates and boosting the circular economy."
