Councillor hopes Kilkenny landowners will 'have the decency' to observe hedge-cutting ban

A local councillor is hoping that landowners in Kilkenny will 'have the decency' to observe the ongoing hedge cutting ban.

Cllr Fidelis Doherty made the remark at this month's meeting of Piltown Municipal District Council.

The message from the National Parks & Wildlife Service (NPWS) is that the cutting, grubbing, burning or other destruction of vegetation growing in any hedge or ditch between March 1 and August 31 is prohibited.

"The prohibition is contained in Section 40 of the Wildlife Act 1976," they stated.

"Suspected breaches are investigated by the NPWS and An Garda Síochána."
