Gardaí notified as council vents dismay over heavily-littered area in Kilkenny City during sunny spell

Some of the litter left around the Bishopsmeadows area

Kilkenny County Council has hit out at people who are leaving their rubbish all over public amenity areas in the city during the current spell of good weather.

The issue was highlighted recently by the Kilkenny People, where thoughtless individuals are out having barbeques and drinks, and then not bothering to bring home litter from areas such as Bishopsmeadows. The council said it was disappointed with the state of the area.

"A significant amount of hard work has been dedicated to its recent renovation, aiming to create a lovely space for everyone to enjoy," they posted.

"Unfortunately, it was recently left in a condition that is not acceptable. We have reported this matter to the Gardai. These social areas are meant to be welcoming places for people to gather with their loved ones and appreciate the surroundings. We cannot tolerate antisocial behaviour of this nature.

"We are grateful to the Kilkenny City Area team who have promptly cleaned and addressed this issue. We sincerely hope that we won't witness any further incidents like this. We invite you to come and visit these spaces, taking the opportunity to enjoy them. We kindly request that you take your litter home with you when you're finished."
