There are now 1,565 people from Ukraine currently living in Kilkenny, latest figures from the Ukrainian Department at Kilkenny County Council have confirmed.
843 are being accommodated in commercial properties, 118 in council-managed properties (such as St John of God convent), 270 in homes throughout the county and 334 are living in private arrangements.
60% of arrivals are female and 40% are male (71% adult/29% children) and 400 are now registered as employed.
Over one-thousand Ukrainians are actively involved in training programmes with Kilkenny Leader Partnership.
Across the county, 169 Ukrainians are attending primary school, 119 are attending secondary school, and 49 are attending pre-school/after-school services.
One of the key challenges identified in accommodating Ukrainians is ensuring that all premises coming on-stream are in compliance with fire regulations.
