Gardaí in the Kilkenny-Carlow Division have conducted 837 mandatory intoxication checkpoints so far this year (as of June 22), according to new figures released in Dáil Éireann.
This rate of testing puts local gardaí firmly on course to exceed last year's total of 1433.
The figures follow a recent pledge from gardaí in the district to ramp up roadside drug testing on foot of new data showing that approximately one in six roadside drug tests are returning a positive result.
This statistic was relayed to public representatives at a meeting of the Joint Policing Committee back in March.
