Another week of winners for Kilkenny jockeys and trainers

Tipperary - Tuesday, 4 July

Willie Mullins and his nephew Danny both notched up winners this week as locals continue to put their stamp on the racing scene . 


Paul Townend was in the saddle as the Willie Mullins trained ‘Inclusion’ won the beginners’ chase over two miles and three furlongs.


The 11/10 favourite led before the straight and was clear before the penultimate fence to beat 100/1 chance How Decc by 13 lengths.


Danny Mullins’ winner came in the shape of the Gavin Cromwell-trained ‘Railway Hurricane’ which won the rated novice chase over the same distance. Mullins brought the 7/2 shot home three and a quarter lengths clear of the Tom Gibney-trained 11/4 favourite Mr Saxobeat.

Tipperary - Wednesday, 5 July


Kilmacow native, Hugh Horgan, recorded his 23rd career success at the meeting winning the apprentice handicap over five furlongs on the Johnny Feane-trained Havana Notion. Owned by the Prosperous One Syndicate, the 8/1 chance led inside the final furlong to beat Susan Finn’s 5/2 favourite Mymomentintime by a length. 


Elsewhere, Shane Foley teamed up with Jessica Harrington to win the nine-furlong handicap with the 11/2 shot Miss Yvonne. She ran out the easiest winner of the meeting when recording a seven-length win over Johnny Murtagh’s Alabama Pearl.


Trainer Ray Cody won the two and a half-mile handicap hurdle at the same meeting, the Rachael Blackmore-ridden Watch The Weather. A 15/2 chance, the seven-year-old had any amount in hand as he scored by nine lengths from the Paul Gilligan-trained Shanwalla for owner Sean Connors

Tipperary - Thursday, 6 July


Danny Mullins landed a second winner of the week when partnering Spinning Web to win the first three-year-old maiden hurdle of the season. Trained by his mother Mags for the Barrow Vale Syndicate, the 16/1 chance lunged late to score by half a length from the Gordon Elliott-trained 5/2 favourite Doctor Nightingale which was ridden by Donagh Meyler. 


The success rolled on for the Mullins clan on the same evening, as Patrick Mullins ended the session on a winner on board the Cian Collins-trained Crooked Tannie scored a runaway success in the concluding bumper. The 4/1 chance made all the running to beat the Tom Mullins-trained 6/4 favourite Master Otis by 14 lengths.

Bellewstown - Thursday, 6 July


Shane Foley recorded his second winner of the week, Jessica Harrington’s 11/10 favourite G’day Mate got up in the dying strides to take the five-furlong auction series maiden.

Bellewstown - Friday, 7 July


Joseph O'Brien was on the mark on Friday evening when 10/11 favourite Warnie scored a comfortable win in the median sires series maiden. Ridden by Dylan Browne McMonagle, the Nathan Bennett-owned two-year-old went clear inside the final furlong to beat Dermot Weld’s 28/1 shot Captain Maverick by three and three-parts of a length.

Wexford - Friday, 7 July

Ray Cody made it two winners for the week as Fancy A Cosmo landed the two and a half-mile maiden hurdle. Owned by the Pints & Bubbles Syndicate, the 15/2 chance went clear form the second-last hurdle to win by an easy 14 lengths from the Richard O'Brien-trained Suttons Hill. Shark Hanlon and Jody McGarvey combined to win the two and a half-mile handicap chase with 17/2 shot Take All.


Willie Mullins and his son Patrick took the concluding bumper with the Louth Meath Racing Club-owned debutante Friends. The 4/6 favourite scored a cosy one and three-parts of a length win over the Terence O'Brien-trained Ma Bless.

Naas - Saturday, 8 July


Rory Cleary and Luke McAteer rode winners to give Jim Bolger a closing race double. Cleary brought Clever And Cool from last to first to win the seven-furlong conditions’ race by three-parts of a length from Joseph O'Brien’s 8/13 favourite Vernet at odds of 7/2 while McAteer won the 10-furlong handicap on Slaney Tide, the 14/1 chance beating Michael Grassick’s 16/1 shot Lilac Lady by a length and a quarter.

Bellewstown - Saturday, 8 July


Eoin Griffin and conditional jockey Mark McDonagh landed the feature Bellewstown Handicap Hurdle with Wouldn't You Agree as the three-day July festival at the County Meath track drew to a close on Saturday evening. The nine-year-old only got into the race as the first reserve and he made the most of the late opportunity to score by three-parts of a length from the Gordon Elliott-trained Set Point.
