According to CSO data, 94 dwellings were completed across the county of Kilkenny in Quarter Two (Q2) of 2023.
This represents a large decrease (-35%) in the number of completed dwellings in the county compared to Q2 of 2022, when the CSO recorded 145 newly completed dwellings across the county.
Of the 94 dwellings completed in Kilkenny of Q2 of this year, 52 were completed in the Kilkenny City electoral area, 17 in the Piltown electoral area, 13 in the Callan-Thomastown electoral area and 12 in the Castlecomer electoral area.
Surprisingly, the South-East region was actually the region with the biggest relative increase from Q2 2022 to Q2 2023 (+21.1%).
The region also includes data from counties Carlow, Waterford and Wexford - who all saw comparative increases during the same period, thus making Kilkenny a statistical outlier.
The CSO uses new connections to the electricity network as the basis for statistics on new dwelling completions, a data source that is collected nationally by one organisation in a consistent manner for all dwellings.
