Sixteen incidences of aggressive behaviour in dogs were recorded in Kilkenny last year, with one incident recorded of a person being physically injured by a dog (including damage to clothes).

This year, for the first time, statistics on aggressive behaviour/dog attacks reported to local authorities have been compiled.

There were also six instances of livestock worrying recorded in Kilkenny in 2022, resulting in the maiming, killing or euthanization of five cattle, 33 poultry and two other animals.

It may also be possible in some instances, that injured parties reported the attack to An Garda Síochána, or presented for medical attention and did not report the incident to local authority dog wardens.

Overall there were 5,107 individual dog licences issued in Kilkenny in 2022, the lowest that annual figure has been since 2018.
