Kilkenny Leaving Cert students reminded of 'many pathways' available to them as CAO race begins

Kilkenny Leaving Cert students told 'not to give up' if CAO offers don't go their way

Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, Simon Harris, has told Leaving Certificate students in Co Kilkenny and around the country not to give up hope if they don't receive their first choice CAO offers.

In a statement released this morning, Minister Harris said: "There are so many pathways out there towards their (students) chosen studies and dream career.

If they do not receive offers for one of their preferred courses do not give up - please know that there other routes available," highlighting avenues such as, PLC courses, apprenticeships and the recently announced unified tertiary courses in which students will be able to enroll in one of 23 new degree courses outside of the CAO points race.

Deputy Harris also expressed his congratulations to students for completing the state exam, stating: "I truly hope the news they received today is what they were hoping for."

"For each student today there is so much to be excited about as a new chapter of their life begins. Remember that education is a lifelong journey, one which can constantly improve your knowledge and skills and, ultimately, help you achieve your full potential."
