Commission has 'no appreciation of the anger and upset caused by this decision' in Kilkenny

Cllr Michael Delaney (pictured) from Tullaroan has voiced his frustration at the recommendation from the Electoral Commission

Councillor Michael Delaney (FF) from Tullaroan has strongly criticised the Electoral Commission recommendation to transfer 6,431 people in Kilkenny to the new constituency of Tipperary North.

"The Electoral Commission has no appreciation of the anger and upset caused by their decision and they certainly have no understanding of the pride that these communities have in their county and parish. The decision is an abomination," he said.

"North Tipperary now spans from Tullaroan in County Kilkenny to the Galway border. It beggars belief as to how this decision was arrived at."

Cllr Delaney continued by stating that 'not only has the Commission ignored the county boundary of Kilkenny but they have ignored the provincial boundary of Leinster and Munster'.

"I will continue to work with Deputy John McGuinness to provide a direct route for queries to Kilkenny County Council and Dáil Éireann," he added.

"Although local people may feel disenfranchised by the decision of the Commission, I want to assure them that I will stand in solidarity with them, and I will give them the public representation that they deserve."
