Kilkenny man arrives in the Czech Republic ahead of new ambassadorial role

A Kilkennyman is to be appointed to a prestigious new role as Irish Ambassador to the Czech Republic.

Alan Gibbons, who previously held the position as Counsellor in Development Cooperation and Africa Division, presented copies of his Letter of Credence to the Chief of Protocol, Markéta Šarbochová in Prague on Thursday morning.

Mr Gibbons was approved by the Irish Government for the post, and ratified on the recommendation of the Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney in November 2022. 

Across the globe, 19 Irish Ambassadors have been nominated for positions. Three in Africa, one in the Americas, three in the Asia Pacific region, ten in Europe and two in the Middle East and North Africa region. Each appointment is subject to agreement by the receiving States.
