Aiséirí Aislinn, Ireland’s only 12 step residential addiction treatment centre for young people, celebrates 25 years of treating addiction this week.
Located in Ballyragget, Co. Kilkenny, it provides quality treatment for young people, between the age of 15 and 21 years, living with the destructive impact of alcohol, drugs and gambling.
Aislinn was established by Aiséirí in response to the growing need for its services among young people from all across the country, an approach the organisation has taken many times as it has grown its services substantially over the last four decades.
Today, Aiséirí consists of four unique centres of recovery located in Kilkenny, Tipperary, Wexford and Waterford.
Aiseiri is the only addiction treatment organisation in the country that offers a seven-stage lifetime of care model of services from preventative outreach right through to recovery support.
Founded in Cahir, County Tipperary by Sr. Eileen Fahey in 1983, Aiseiri remains committed to the Minnesota 12-step model of care, abstinence-based treatment and the core values of hope, compassion, respect, recovery and excellence.
Alcoholism, drug addiction including poly-substance addiction and gambling are the primary addictions treated.
Over the years, Aiséirí has consistently enhanced its services and responded swiftly to new challenges and trends in addiction and the increasing level of dual diagnosis and complexity of needs presenting for treatment.
Each new service developed, and enhancements made to existing services, have been brought about as a direct response to identifying a need for action in that area.
Aiséirí Aislinn based in Kilkenny was set up by Aiséirí in response to an increasing number of young people whose lives were blighted by addiction.
Aiséirí Aislinn believes in the priceless potential of young people and works closely with families to help them understand more about addiction so that they can support their loved ones win back bright futures.
Sr. Veronica who set up Aiseiri Aislinn on behalf of the organisation back in 1998 commented, “I am so proud of Aislinn and the many lives that have changed for the better as a result of the care and support young people and their families have received here. The team of experts we have working at the centre today and indeed over the last twenty-five years are truly remarkable and the many heartwarming stories of recovery we have witnessed are a testament to their hard work, compassion and dedication.”
Residential detox with 24 hour specialised clinical care is provided for those who require it, this was another major development at Aiséirí.
Extension of this service and the continuum of care services featured heavily in their strategic plan launched last month. Extended continuum of care services includes secondary treatment, sober living and education and career support.
Aiséirí is fully accredited by CHKS, the internationally recognised healthcare quality standards accrediting body.
The organisation works closely with the HSE, the Probation Service, other representative bodies and state organisations and is recognised by all the main health insurance providers.
