New gate installed at the entrance to the underground vault at The Thomple Historic Church & Graveyard
Conservations works were recently completed on The Thomple Historic Church & Graveyard in Thomastown, County Kilkenny.
Works included the repair of a boundary wall and an underground vault.
A new gate was also installed at the entrance to the underground vault for security purposes.
The Thomple was one of six Kilkenny projects awarded funding under the 2023 Community Monuments Fund.
The aim of the Community Monuments Fund is to invest essential capital into our archaeological heritage to help owners and custodians of archaeological monuments safeguard them into the future for the benefit of communities and the public.
In Kilkenny, this funding is administered by the Heritage Office in Kilkenny County Council in partnership with the Environment Section of Kilkenny County Council.
