Joe Coogan in action
An absorbing auction of land in Kilkenny ended with the entire lot changing hands for €1.45 million in recent day.
Our observer noted that would never think local auctioneer Joe Coogan would have a sore throat, of all things, such was the intensity of a property sale at Ballycomey.
The property at Dundaryark, Danesfort was offered in three lots in what our local correspondent Maurice Shortall described as an absorbing exercise with Mr Coogan adjourning on numerous occasions before the hammer finally fell on the entire lot for a price of €1.45 million.
Witty to the last, Mr Coogan closed the gap several times on prospective buyers before quipping that he could now defer his regular evening walk in reference to the many journeys he made to and from the auction rooms that day.
The sale of the 45.195 acre residential holding, including sperate bungalow, is situated in prime location overlooking the surrounding countryside, with road frontage on to the main Kilkenny/Waterford Road.
Lot 1 included an old two storey farmhouse, semi-detached residence of1779 sq ft, situated approximately 800 metres from the public road.
Farm buildings consisting of 6-unit milking parlour, with meal bin and automatic feeders, open concrete silage pit, 2 individual lean two’s with cubicles, 3 span round roof shed with 2 three span lean toos, old pig and calve houses, cattle crush, large concrete yard, old stone slatted out offices were also included in this lot.
Lot 2 featured a bright spacious very well maintained, bungalow residence 1,797 sq ft, constructed in 2011, standing on 0.593 of an acre, situated beside the public road.
