Major indiscriminate dumping shows no sign of stopping in one area of Kilkenny

From this week's Windgap-Tullahought notes...

Indiscriminate dumping shows no signs of stopping in area of Kilkenny

Some of the litter/rubbish that was collected earlier this year around Tullahought, Lamogue and the Lingaun Valley

One mile of a quiet and scenic country road that was litter picked six weeks ago bore signs that not much has changed with regards casual dumping from cars by passers-by.

With part of the road having its hedge trimmed recently to reveal some hidden items, other items dumped in the following days included 22 soft drinks bottles of various brands and sizes and five disposable drinks cups.

Apart from wrappers from every type of snacks, crisp bags, cigarette and vape boxes the most numerous items were 26 recyclable cans of nine varieties with the various brands of Red Bull pipping Coke by one.

For variety the list included bits of old rope, waste cable, vehicle parts and white tiles that joined two shattered white plastic buckets, a formula car racing cap, an energy-saving bulb and a tin of brown water sealant.

The food waste contribution included a number of unopened cakes, sandwich wraps, oats and a tub of red sauce.

The real mystery was packed inside two brown paper bags pushed in behind an Ash tree that had a reflective sign displayed on the opposite side stating LITTER FREE ZONE - NO DUMPING in full capitals.

Its contents, a fast food meal of battered fish, batter burger, chicken nuggets and chips were all found in a Yummy meal box.
