Tipperary TD, Michael Lowry, has called on Agriculture Minister, Charlie McConalogue, to release funding for the upgrade and improvement of Kilkenny Greyhound Stadium before Christmas.
Greyhound Racing Ireland has been awarded €19million under Budget 2024 with €1million sanctioned for the local project.
Speaking during a Dáil Motion on the Horse and Greyhound Fund Regulation, Mr Lowry lended his support to the local project, stating: "This is a very progressive venue, with a strong tradition and widespread support from the owner, from trainers and from the general public who like to go out for a 'Night at the Dogs'.
"The Board of Greyhound Racing Ireland is enthusiastic about the implementation of this project and has sanctioned €1million in funding. A new CEO has been appointed to oversee the Development. The local Committee is ready to draw down that funding," he said.
The Independent TD concluded by asking the Minister to bring the funding for the local track forward 'as it would make an ideal Christmas present for the local Committee.'
