The 'longest ever imported' wind turbine blades have successfully docked at Port of Waterford in Belview, County Kilkenny.
The port describes their importation as a 'record-breaking' cargo project for Ireland, with each blade measuring eighty metres in length.
The update comes as two roundabouts in South Kilkenny are currently being adapted to facilitate the transport of these mammoth blades.
Local councillors in the area were recently informed that the port is 'becoming a hub' for the transportation of wind turbine blades and that the works will help facilitate the movement of these blades to infrastructure projects across the country.
The roundabouts (Slieverue Roundabout and nearby Luffany Roundabout) are located on a vital spur of the national road network as they connect the Belview Port Road (N29) to the N25 Waterford bypass and the wider motorway network.
Local area engineer Stan Cullen has stated that the transportation of wind turbine blades in the area 'will be subject to a blue light garda escort'.
He also confirmed that such movements would be done outside of peak traffic hours, so as to limit the impact on traffic flow.
