Clara Parish Priest, Fr Willie Purcell has called on the Kilkenny public to restore the St Patrick's Day traditions of old when celebrating our national saint's holiday on March 17.
"In Kilkenny it was part of our tradition to go to Mass and then to the Parade, it was also part of our tradition that families would put a statue of St Patrick in their window to welcome the Saint," the local Priest commented.
"Many still wear shamrock on St Patrick's Day remembering St Patrick's teaching on the Trinity. We need to restore these traditions that stood fast to the generations of our families and communities."
"We need to put St Patrick back into St Patrick's Day and celebrate the man who we cheer and sing about," said Fr Purcell.
Meanwhile, Kilkenny is gearing up for a busy schedule of Irish events as Tradfest gets underway, celebrating and championing the best the country has to offer on our doorstep.
