20 speeding drivers stopped and fined in Kilkenny

Additional checkpoints were in place for National Slow Down Day

Twenty drivers were clocked breaking the speed limit in Kilkenny during National Slow Down Day.

Roads policing Inspector, Paul Donohoe said that there were additional checkpoints in situ throughout the city and county on Monday as part of the national garda campaign.

In Kilkenny there were 20 speeding tickets including five in Johnstown and two in Ballyragget in the north of the county. A further eight drivers were caught breaking the 120kph speed limit on the M9 motorway while five motorists were issued tickets for speeding in Kilkenny City.

 Inspector Donohoe  said that there was one arrest following a speeding detection in Thomastown, the driver in question was disqualified and had no insurance.  

Nationally  130,529 vehicles were checked for speeded and there were 229 detections.
