Major announcement expected on long-sought veterinary college for Kilkenny today

A significant announcement is expected today (Wednesday, September 18) regarding a long-hoped for veterinary college for Kilkenny and the wider South-East region.

Two new Irish Veterinary Colleges are to be created, and it has long been hoped that oen of them will be based in South Kilkenny. Government sources have indicated that an announcement is imminent, and it is understood that Kilkenny may be looked on favourably as a destination.

Local councillor David Ftizgerald has been among those campaigning for the college to be located here.

“Kilkenny has been at a disadvantage with not having an SETU campus in the county,” he previously told the Kilkenny People. “We had also lost out to Dublin and Cork for generations of students.”
