The Roads Policing Unit in Kilkenny Gardaí are reminding the public they must hold a license to tow on their vehicle.
Posting to social media, a Garda spokesperson said: "We've covered this before but a reminder as our Roads Policing Unit intercepted two drivers today who weren't allowed continue their journey as they were not properly licensed," the post read.
"When you're not licensed to tow, you're not properly insured."
The post also clarified the necessary licences required for drivers to tow legally.
"Your category B licence entitles you to a maximum Gross Vehicle Weight of 3,500 kg. Your average SUV while weighing 1,700kg unladen likely has a Gross Vehicle Weight or Maximum Allowable Mass of around 2,600kg. Your horsebox which will likely be plated with its GVW or MAM will likely have a GVW of 2,500kg so no go on a category B licence EVEN IF EMPTY!!," the post continued.
