The Camogie Association calls on Kilkenny people to share historical items for GAA archive

The Camogie Association has launched a nationwide appeal for historical items to add to the GAA Library and Archive.

The appeal is part of the Camogie Association's Newman Fellowship Project at UCD. This project on the history of camogie was established to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the founding of the sport and aims to document the important role of camogie in Irish society since it began in the early 20th century.

Some of the materials that the Camogie Association is searching for include minute books, convention reports, match programmes and souvenir programmes, publications such as books or magazines, old photographs, and letters or diaries all relating to camogie.

Commenting on the launch of the appeal, Uachtarán of the Camogie Association, Brian Molloy said: "The Newman fellowship project provides a unique opportunity for us to gather together all aspects of our Association’s proud history and document it for future generations.

"I would ask that everyone who has or had any connections with camogie over the past 120 years to take the time over Christmas to bring together any materials they can find and share them with us so we can collectively preserve the rich and detailed story of camogie."

The GAA Library and Archive has been collecting publications, records and archives of the association at central, provincial and county board levels since it was first established in 2007.

This new appeal should add even more valuable materials to the already impressive archive.

If you think that you have any relevant items to share, then you can contact GAA Archivist Adam Staunton at astaunton@crokepark.ie or 01 8192350.
