Garda warning as potentially dangerous 'young bucks' on the move in Kilkenny

Kilkenny drivers are being urged to take extra care as the deer mating season is well underway, with gardaí issuing a caution about potential hazards on local roads.

According to a recent garda advisory, 'enthusiastic young bucks' are particularly active at this time, especially during nighttime and early morning hours, increasing the chances of deer unexpectedly crossing roads.

"A reminder to all drivers, that the deer mating season is well underway and the hazard of them running across the road is a very present danger," a garda spokesperson said.

"These enthusiastic young bucks are especially prevalent at night and in the early mornings and may be dazzled by your lights.

"A good and safe rule is only ever drive within the scope of your visibility and expect the unexpected. Be ready to stop. In the case of a collision report immediately on the 112 or 999 number.

"Best advice though is slow down and make sure Santa has livestock to pull the sleigh in 10 weeks time!"
