Gardai are appealing for witnesses following a "terrifying" incident that occurred at residential property in Ferrybank on the Kilkenny-Waterford border on New Year's Day.
Members attached to the Waterford Crime Unit are investigating the burglary which happened at Estuary Woods in Ferrybank at around 4.50pm on January 1.
"A female was awoken by kicking on her locked bedroom door which was then forced open. The occupant observed three males in dark clothing who then fled on seeing her. She called Gardaí who responded but the intruders had left the scene," said a garda spokesperson.
"This was a terrifying ordeal for this woman and we are seeking the assistance of anyone who was in this area on New Year’s day. Did you see these three males in the area at the time or any suspicious vehicles?," they added.
Investigating gardai say any detail may assist the investigation, which is ongoing.
Of particular interest are any items that may have been discarded by the intruders - specifically a green wallet/purse which was taken from the house.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Waterford Crime Unit on 051 305300 or the Garda Confidential line on 1800 666 111.
