Detailed new plans by Kilkenny County Council to undertake works to the former Carnegie Library in Kilkenny City have been laid out to the public on the local authority’s online consultation portal.
The development will consist of ‘repurposing the former Carnegie Library into a Kilkenny Local Studies Hub, preserving its original architectural character while enhancing its role as a cultural and heritage resource’.
Also planned is the reconfiguring of the building layout ‘to create a continuous finished floor level aligned with the original double-bay configuration’.

Enhanced front access is also envisioned with stone paving and metal railings matching the original features and a secondary accessible entrance at the rear with a ramp extending south and metal railings.
Other aspects of the plans include soft and hard landscaping, biodiversity planting, public lighting and sustainable urban drainage systems.
