Shock as puppies abandoned in two separate incidents in Kilkenny

Two recent cases of puppies being abandoned in different parts of Kilkenny have sparked widespread concern and outrage.

While on patrol in Kilkenny City last Thursday week, gardaí attached to Unit C came across pups abandoned in a ditch.

The gardaí called their colleagues in the Community Engagement Unit to come with the van to help take them in out of the cold.

“You wouldn’t put a dog out in it,” the statement added, with temperatures later that night forecasted to drop well below freezing.

“The pups are currently being looked over by a local vet and are all safe now,” gardaí added.

“We are making enquiries to determine how the pups came to be in this ditch and who is responsible as this would be contrary to the Animal Welfare Act.”

There has also been widespread disgust and anger to a recent post from Carlow Kilkenny Dog Shelter, who shared details of the circumstances around how a group of puppies came into their care recently.

“A litter of six pups has been found by a member of the public in a bag by the river in Goresbridge in Kilkenny,” the shelter stated.

“They are crawling in parasites and have big worm burden bellies. Please note they are not for adoption. Rescue help only please.”

The shelter have since confirmed that rescue help for these puppies has been ‘sorted’.
