Over 250 animals were seized in Kilkenny over welfare and tagging concerns

Over two hundred and fifty cattle were seized from a farm in North Kilkenny last month during a major operation last month.

A spokesperson for the Department of Agriculture confirmed to The Kilkenny People that it carried out a large-scale livestock seizure operation in December at a farm holding in County Kilkenny under its powers in the Animal Health and Welfare Act and with the assistance of An Garda Síochána.

"As this matter relates to an ongoing investigation the Department will not be providing any further comment," added the spokesperson.

It is understood that the animals were seized over welfare and tagging and registration concerns.
