PICTURES: 'Like a bomb site' - Kilkenny motorists warned of continued diversions

Motorists intending on travelling through Thomastown in County Kilkenny are advised that the bridge in the centre of the town remains impassible.

This follows a freak incident of flooding in the town earlier today, believed to have been caused by a water main that erupted, causing major damage to the road surface, and flooding the town centre.

Gardaí and emergency services promptly rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area, with some diversions remaining in place.

Crews are now battling hard to repair the damage and return normality to the centre of one of Kilkenny's largest towns.

One local resident remarked to a Kilkenny Live reporter that the scene was 'like a bomb site'.
