Kilkenny business sought to extend opening hours
Permission has been refused to a planning application lodged by Ard Services Limited in relation to the Circle K service station, Castlecomer Road, Kilkenny, R95 EA3C.
Back in March, they applied for planning permission for 'a change of station opening hours to allow for 24 hour opening on a daily basis'.

The plans were received by Kilkenny County Council on March 28, 2025.
On May 22, the planning authority published their decision to refuse and outlined the following in their rationale:
"Having regard to the zoning of the site as 'Existing Residential', the proximity of various residential units, the proposed 24 hour nature of the development and potential for associated impacts of noise, light pollution and overspill and late night activity, the planning authority considers that by reason of the increased operating hours to 24 hour operation with resultant late night and early morning activity on site, the proposal would intensify the development within this residential area to a level which is irreconcilable with the zoning objective which is to protect, provide and improve (existing) residential amenities.
"This is particularly so during the quiet hours of the night and early morning. By virtue of these potential impacts, it is considered that the proposed extension of opening hours would contrary to the proper planning and development of the area."
