Kilkenny County Council originally granted planning permission for the development to proceed, subject to 23 conditions, on April 23, 2025.

The local authority ruled that: “It is considered that the proposed development as revised, subject to compliance with planning conditions, would not seriously injure the residential or visual amenities of this area, would not adversely affect the character of the area and would therefore be in accordance with the proper planning and sustainable development of the area.”
A final decision on the proposed blocks is now expected from An Bord Pleanála.
