Leas-Cheann Comhairle Deputy John McGuinness has welcomed a major funding boost for community projects, including a €173,843 allocation for roof replacement at the CYSM Hall in Ballyragget, County Kilkenny.
The funding was announced by Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary TD, during a visit to County Roscommon on Thursday, June 5.
The announcement is part of the third round of allocations under the 2024 Community Recognition Fund, which is distributing more than €17 million to 212 projects across the country.

Deputy McGuinness said the funding is vital for spaces such as community centres, sports clubs, parks, recreational trails, and play and sensory areas.
“People give their time to these projects, and these places bring a great sense of belonging to an area,” he said.
The Community Recognition Fund aims to deliver tangible benefits to towns and villages that have welcomed new arrivals in recent years.
