Gardaí in Kilkenny have started using new equipment to assess the compliance of electric scooters with Irish regulations.
The Kilkenny Roads Policing Unit recently conducted a checkpoint on Bateman Quay, where the new technology was used.

Gardaí confirmed that they now have the means to check whether e-scooters meet legal requirements. Non-compliant vehicles are subject to seizure and prosecution.
A spokesperson stated that while e-scooters are a convenient mobility option when used legally, enforcement will be applied to ensure road safety.

The operation marks a step in the local implementation of national transport laws relating to personal mobility devices.
