The Carlow/Kilkenny Dog Shelter, based in Paulstown, County Kilkenny, has issued an urgent appeal for rescue assistance for a stray dog named Dougal.

The shelter says Dougal was picked up in Carlow after straying for some time, and he is finding life at the busy kennels extremely stressful.

According to the shelter, Dougal is "petrified" in the current environment and has been eating very little as a result.

Staff describe him as a nervous dog who mixes well with another shy collie at the shelter, named Brendan.

A spokesperson said they are seeking a rescue organisation that can offer Dougal a foster home through their network. "We are sure he will flourish in a foster setting," they added.

The shelter has emphasised that it is appealing for a rescue space only, along with a foster home arranged through that rescue.
