Kilkenny County Council will receive an increase of €600,000 in Local Property Tax (LPT) allocation in changes announced to ‘the baseline’ funding of local authorities nationwide.
An increase of €42 million will be spread across all 31 local authorities in the country to bring the total national allocation of LPT funding to €744 million.
Under the current LPT allocation model, every local authority has a minimum level of funding available to it known as the ‘baseline’ to help ensure that they can deliver adequate levels of service.
If the estimated LPT yield in a local authority is lower than its baseline, the authority is topped-up to that amount which is the case in Kilkenny.

The increase of €600,000 will bring Kilkenny County Council’s total LPT allocation for 2026 to €12,773,913.
Announcing the changes, Minister James Browne TD, said: “Those who are paying local property taxes deserve to see their contribution at work in their local areas and today I have made changes to ensure more locally sourced revenue is spent where it comes from.”
