The Local Authority Waters Programme (LAWPRO), are reminding those working in sectors that may pose a pollution risk to water and also the wider public, that 'we all have a responsibility to protect water quality'.
LAWPRO works on behalf of Ireland’s 31 local authorities to protect and restore good water quality in our rivers, lakes, estuaries, ground and coastal water through catchment science and local community engagement.
"It is disappointing that elevated levels of bacteria has resulted in the closure of the bathing areas along the River Nore," a spokesperson for the body said.

"The River Nore is an important amenity, and it should be cherished and protected. It is also a Special Area of Conservation and an important salmon fishery," they added.
Bathing advisory notices have been lifted in Kilkenny City, Inistioge and Thomastown in recent days, but an advisory warning remains in place in Graignamanagh until further notice.
Kilkenny County Council will continue testing water quality at each location, to ensure safe bathing across the county.
