Man dies and more hospitalised following road traffic incidents in Kilkenny area

A man has died and two people were hospitalised over the weekend following four separate road collisions in County Kilkenny and its environs.

Firstly, gardaí responded to a road traffic collision on the College Road in the city involving a car and a bicycle shortly after 9.45pm on Saturday evening. No injuries have been reported at this time.

Later that evening, gardaí received a report of a two-vehicle collision at Ballymack, Cuffesgrange. The collision, which involved a car and a van, occurred sometime between 1.30am and 1.45am on Sunday morning. Both drivers were brought to St Luke’s General Hospital in Kilkenny for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Separately, gardaí received a report of a road traffic collision involving a car and a bus at Burnchurch, Cuffesgrange at around 3.50am the same morning. No injuries were reported in that collision.

Meanwhile, just over the Kilkenny border in County Carlow, a pedestrian died at Ballyroughan Big in Borris. Gardai said a car struck a pedestrian at 4.30pm on Saturday, where the man aged in his 40s was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The latest casualty means 143 people (drivers/pedestrians) have died on our roads so far in 2025.
