Garda appeal as 'pure gentleman' from Kilkenny killed in tragic circumstances

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision that claimed the life of a Kilkenny man on Sunday.

The incident occurred on the R448 at Sallypark in Waterford shortly before 2.10am.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene after a car struck a pedestrian.

The male pedestrian (40s), since identified as Eamonn (Ned) Murphy of Ballynooney, Mullinavat, County Kilkenny, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the car, a male in his 20s, was uninjured.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the R448 on Sunday between 1.30am and 2.15am are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.

FUNERAL DETAILS

Ned, described in his death notice as 'a pure gentleman' is predeceased by his parents Martin and Peggy Murphy.

Beloved husband of Vitalija and loving daddy to Tommy. Ned will be dearly missed by his heartbroken family, brother James, sister Ann Marie, sisters-in-law Trish and Audra, brother-in-law Tommy, nieces Ella, Ciara and Katie, nephews Senan, Oisin and Martin, mother-in-law Virginija and father-in-law Petras, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Reposing on Tuesday at Donnacha Doyle & Son Funeral Home, Grannagh, Kilmacow from 4pm until 7pm. Arriving on Wednesday at St Beacon’s Church Mullinavat (via his residence) for Requiem Mass at 2pm. Burial after in the adjoining cemetery.
