Concerns raised over alleged smells coming from trucks travelling through Ferrybank in South Kilkenny

Foul smells in area of Kilkenny has 'a lot of people talking'

Responsible use of the local road network was a common theme at a recent district meeting in South Kilkenny.

Two separate but related concerns were raised. One involved smells allegedly coming from trucks travelling through Ferrybank and South Kilkenny.

“We’re all getting letters about trucks (carrying foul smells),” Cllr Pat Dunphy said.

Area engineer John Tennyson outlined the regulatory framework governing such haulage.

“All trucks will have to have permits,” he said.

“There are strict conditions on those trucks regarding odour abatement,” he continued, adding that waste enforcement officers would ‘probably have to be on-site’ to catch any vehicle in breach.

Cllr Dunphy stressed again that the issue was a live one in the community.

“A lot of people are talking about it,” he said.
