A spirited rendition of 'Happy Birthday To You' reverberated around County Hall in Kilkenny on Monday as elected members and the executive united to celebrate the milestone of Cllr John Brennan's 70th birthday.

It has been a whirlwind year for Cllr Brennan as he has been recovering from a stroke that could've claimed his life - only for the quick actions of those around him.

Leading the tributes was Cllr Mary Hilda Cavanagh, Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council, who expressed her delight at Cllr Brennan's recovery, given that he had been 'fighting for his life'.

The comments were made prior to the commencement of the business of December's plenary meeting, featuring councillors from all local districts across Kilkenny.

Cllr Cavanagh commended Cllr Brennan's recent interview on local radio where he recounted his story - a story that had been previously recounted in great detail by The Kilkenny People / Kilkenny Live.

Cllr Brennan thanked his colleagues for their support, and highlighted the need for urgent action to be taken if the symptoms of a stroke present themselves.
