The driver of a untaxed car with an expired NCT and a dashboard 'lit up like the Northern Lights' has had their vehicle seized today by gardaí in North Kilkenny.
"I don't think it's worth taxing now...," a post on the local garda social media page begins. "Said the driver of this car in Castlecomer earlier, with NCT expired 21 months and tax a massive 1147 days ago (purchased in 2022).

"With a dash lit up like the Northern Lights, it appears keeping the car right was not a priority. We seized it under Section 41 of the Road Traffic Act with fixed charge notices for tax and NCT and 3 penalty points too.
"Separately, an unaccompanied learner received fix charge notices and was not allowed to proceed until a suitable co-pilot arrived on scene.

"Whether we like it or not, vehicle roadworthiness regulations and indeed rules around learner drivers are set in law which we are bound to enforce."
