Ollie Brennan honoured at annual Water Babies Little Hero Awards
Ollie Brennan (15 months) has been announced as the Kilkenny award recipient at the annual 'Water Babies Little Heroes Awards'.
Ollie’s early days were marked by immense uncertainty after he was diagnosed with moderate to severe HIE (Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy) at birth and later with dystonic cerebral palsy.
After weeks in intensive care in Dublin, he returned home a little fighter.
Although Ollie initially found swimming overwhelming, with the steady support of his instructor he gradually began to relax and enjoy the water.

Today, what he does at Water Babies plays a vital role in supporting his mobility and muscle development.
Swimming can be especially beneficial for children with cerebral palsy because the buoyancy of the water supports their bodies, helping to improve strength, flexibility, coordination, and confidence in a safe, low-impact environment.
Week by week, Ollie continues to make great progress. His determination, resilience and joyful spirit make him an outstanding 'Little Hero'.
The Water Babies Little Heroes Awards celebrate babies and children who have shown extraordinary resilience, courage and determination while overcoming health challenges and developmental obstacles.

Through the power of swimming, these remarkable young swimmers are building strength, confidence and essential life skills — bringing reassurance, pride and joy to their families every step of the way.
Carol McNally from Water Babies said: "While we recognise the many physical benefits of introducing babies to swimming from a young age, our Little Heroes Awards highlight something even more profound — the resilience and determination of children facing unique challenges. Watching these little ones flourish in the water, gaining confidence and achieving milestones once thought uncertain, fills us with enormous pride.

"At Water Babies, we are equally proud of our dedicated teachers who nurture and champion each child’s journey. For our Little Heroes and their families, swimming is about far more than learning a skill — it’s about strength, trust, and celebrating every success, no matter how small."
